Quiet Compartments on SC Pendolino Trains
As part of its efforts to improve quality, ČD is introducing so-called quiet compartments on its SuperCity trains starting 14 November 2011. The idea is to enable our customers to travel in a calm environment uninterrupted by ringing mobile telephones, telephone conversations, loud music or other noisy activity on the part of other passengers. Starting 3 November, it will be possible to purchase an SC reservation for a quiet compartment in advance sales through the ČD eShop or at a ČD ticket counter.
The carrier is introducing this innovation based on suggestions from passengers who wish to travel in a calm environment. It is thus yet another change improving services aboard SuperCity Pendolino trains. If quiet compartments on Pendolino trains prove popular, ČD is prepared to introduce them within a short period of time on other trains as well.
The quiet compartment on SuperCity trains (with the exception of connection SC 278) is located in the entire carriage no. 1 (for passengers travelling in 1st carriage class) and in the entire carriage no. 7 (for passengers travelling in 2nd carriage class). In the boarding areas, these carriages are labelled with the “Quiet Compartment” pictogram and the “Use of Mobile Telephones Prohibited” pictogram. Reservations for quiet compartments on SC Pendolino trains can be issued from the ticketing system at ČD ticket counters as well as through the ČD eShop.
Passengers with a reservation for a quiet compartment should turn off the ringers on their mobile telephones when boarding the train. If they need to make or receive a telephone call during the train’s journey, they should do so outside the quiet compartment, i.e. in the carriage’s boarding area or in an adjacent carriage. In consideration of other passengers, they should also refrain from any noisy or disruptive activity in this compartment. The train’s on-board broadcasting system will remain on in all carriages – even in quiet compartments – due to the need to provide information to passengers.
Basic rules for quiet compartments:
- prior to boarding the train, turn off the ringer on your mobile telephone
- do not make or receive telephone calls in the quiet compartment
- do not disturb other passengers by listening to loud music (even with headphones)
- use laptops, tablets, game consoles, etc. only with the sound switched off
- avoid loud conversation and other disruptive activity during the journey as well as during boarding and disembarking
